H17 An abbreviation used to indicate that the rules of a particular blackjack game require the dealer to hit a soft 17.
Hand The cards dealt to every player.
Hard Hand (also Hard Total) A hand without an ace or with an ace counted as one is said to be "Hard" in that it can only be given a single value, as opposed to a "Soft" hand.
Hard Total The sum of any hand not containing aces or the sum of a hand where the ace is valued as 1. Thus a 10 and an 8 represents a hard total of 18, or a hard 18. An Ace and a seven is a hard total of 8.
Heads Up Playing 1-on-1 against a player. No additional players at the table.
High Roller A player who wagers large amounts of money.
Hit (also Draw) Request for a card or adding a new card to your present hand. The card received is also known as a hit.
Hole Card This expression generally refers to the dealer's card that remains face down until the end of the round. It may also refer to any card which remains face down during play.
House Another word for the casino.
House Edge The percentage advantage of a casino over the players.
