Insurance If the dealer's up card is an ace or ten, a player may request insurance. When you place an insurance bet, you're betting that the dealer has blackjack. To make an insurance bet, place an amount of up to one-half your original wager on the insurance line when the dealer calls for insurance. If the dealer has blackjack you win your insurance bet, though lose your original wager. If the dealer doesn't have blackjack, you lose your insurance wager and game play continues. The insurance bet is highly advantageous for the house.
