S17 An abbreviation for the casino rule in which the dealer is required to stand on all soft 17's.
Session The amount of time a player spends at a table.
Shoe A plastic or wooden mechanism which holds multiple decks of cards to be dealt.
Shoe Game A blackjack game in which all the cards are dealt face up.
Shuffle Mixing up the cards prior to dealing them.
Single-Deck A game of blackjack played with only one deck of cards.
Snapper Another term for achieving blackjack.
Soft Double To double down on a hand in which an ace is part of the original hand.
Soft Hand Any blackjack hand that contains an ace worth 11. It's always possible to draw one card to a soft hand without busting.
Soft Total Any hand containing an ace valued at 11.
Split Hand The option to split your hand into two hands when both cards dealt are of the same value.
Splitting Aces If a player receives a pair of aces as their first two cards, they may opt to split the aces. When they split aces, they will receive only one card on each ace. If they receive a second ace after they split, they may choose to re-split those aces as well.
Splitting Pairs If the first 2 cards dealt have the identical value, then the player is given the option of splitting them into 2 separate hands and placing a wager on each of the hands.
Stand or Stay To not draw any more cards. The opposite of "hit."
Standing Hand  A blackjack hand that hard-totals to 17 or more, which is quite likely to bust if one more card is called. Consequently the player is expected to stand.
Stiff Card A card worth between 2 and 6 which could force the dealer to hit.
Stiff Hand Any hand totaling 12 to16, which has a small chance of winning and will bust if a 10-value card is drawn. Player has the option to forfeit half their bet after the dealer checks for blackjack.
Strip Rules A set of rules once common in Vegas casinos where a dealer stands on soft 17 (S17), players are permitted to DOA (double on anything), players are not permitted to DAS (no double down after split), pair splitting is allowed up to four hands, no re-splitting of aces (RSA) is permitted.
Surrender A rule allowing players to give up their first two cards and lose only half of their bet.
