Luck for Sale
Some people will pay anything to gain that winning edge be it "how to" books, gambling courses, seminars, personal coaches, and oops, we almost forget those memorization classes! And while Americans spent an estimated $100 billion (that's right, with a ‘B') on bets last year, additional millions were "invested" in anything and everything suggesting rich remedies for those poor and getting poorer losers. The fact is, some online casino games like Blackjack and Poker do require some skill. Others, like Craps and Roulette, do not. The latter are simply games of chance and no matter how much time, energy, money and prayer (TEMP) you spend trying to beat the odds, the odds are still greater that you're going to lose. Deal with it.
But don't despair just yet; some games are considered ‘beatable.' For example, a wise player employing an effective strategy can mathematically anticipate a positive outcome. These ‘Beatables' (not to be confused with the Beatles) include progressive Slots, Blackjack (when counting cards), Video Poker, Pai Gow Poker, as well as sports betting and horse racing.
‘Unbeatable' games, on the other hand, in which players will ultimately lose in the long run, include Craps, Baccarat, Roulette, and Keno. The best known strategy for coming out ahead in these games is recognizing when you've been just plain lucky, and quitting before you lose all that you've won. Remember, Lady Luck may flirt with you, but she ain't settling down with anyone soon.
Of course there are also the mystical and spiritual approaches to winning and, as luck would have it, these will cost you too. Depending on your budget, luck can be yours for as little as $1 for a synthetic lucky rabbit's foot from the dollar store (the synthetic rabbit wasn't so lucky), to as much as a thousand dollars an hour to hear GiGi the Gamblin' Guru from no fixed address convince an audience of dumbfounds how to nail down the real-life Wizard of Oddz by:
a) downing a special potion (turns out the ingredients are identical to those used in manufacturing MDMA/ecstasy) and
b) MapQuest
Needless to say there's no limit to how much money people will spend trying to improve their luck, while others won't even cross their fingers yet somehow always seem to come up lucky. One thing is for certain: At the end of the day, is night. And as luck would have it, casino games can be played at night too.
Good luck & good fun!
