Roulette Strategies
Roulette is perhaps one of the most popular casino games out there. But if you're out to beat the roulette wheel, you've got to know what you should and shouldn't do.
Roulette is a straight statistical game. For the most part you get rather fair odds. For example, you obtain even money odds when you bet red and the real statistical odds of red coming up is basically even except for that single green square (in European roulette). Hence, your odds are a little lower than 50/50.
The roulette wheel is divided into 38 sections in the USA, or 37 sections in Europe. Each section may hold the ball. These sections are numbered from 1 to 36 and alternate between red & black, except for the green sections. In US roulette there are two green sections; the "0" and the "00." In Europe there's only the one green section on the roulette wheel, the "0." Numbers 1 to 18 are considered the lows and 19 to 36 the highs. Participants either bet a number, a group of numbers, or color. After all the wagers are placed, the dealer tosses the ball along the wheel's rim and the ball comes to rest on the winning number. The dealer then pays or collects the money from each player. You may place a wager on each spin, but you are required to bet amounts between the table's minimum & maximum betting limits.
Following are roulette odds on a standard roulette table:
1. Winning wager on red, black, low 1 to 18, high 19 - 36, even, or odd pays even money.
2. Winning wager on the down (1 to 12, 13 to 24, or 25 to 36), or on the column where the winning number falls pays 2 to 1.
3. Winning wager on the number itself pays 35 to 1.
4. Wager on either of 2 numbers, the house pays 17 to 1. This is where the chip's placed between 2 numbers.
5. Wager on 3 numbers, one of which wins pays 11 to 1. This is where the chip is placed to the right of 3 numbers. Also known as a "Street Bet."
6. Wager on 4 numbers, one of which wins pays 8 to 1. This is where you place a chip in the centre of 4 numbers, touching all 4 squares.
7. Wager on 5 numbers (0,00,1,2,3) one of which wins pays 6 to 1. Also called the "Quint." This is where you place the chip between the "00" and the "3" on the layout.
8. Wager on 6 numbers, one of which wins, the bank pays 5 to 1. Also known as the "Double Street." This is where you place a chip to the right between 2 rows of numbers.
9. When a 0 or 00 comes up the house pays bets on the 0 (or 00).
One of the biggest advantages of online roulette is that you may select between either an American or European roulette wheel, sometimes referred to as "French Roulette." An American roulette wheel comprises two zeros whereas a European wheel has only one zero. A wise online roulette strategy is to play on the European roulette wheel, the one with the single zero. (The balance of this article shall assume that you are.) This reduces the house edge which can make a significant difference.
The second big advantage to playing roulette online, as opposed to a land-based casino, is the bonuses you can receive. With so many online casinos competing out there, there are a number of very valuable bonuses to be had. But make sure you read each casino's Terms & Conditions before agreeing to just any bonus offer. The last thing you want are surprises.
Most roulette players immediately begin by putting chips all over the table even though this can be the poorest value wager the roulette wheel can offer. Even when they win, as they frequently do because the table is covered with their chips, the winnings they receive are slightly more than the amount wagered. What you should be aiming towards is optimizing your chances of being lucky. Don't bet against yourself by gambling more than is necessary to win the same amount you wagered.
One of the more familiar roulette strategies is to pick just a couple of numbers on perhaps the high number side of the roulette table (19-36) and stake the same total amount on "low" (1- 18) - at evens. Then if your chosen numbers refuse to drop in, at least the odds are a little in your favor that you may be covering much of your losses due to the ball temporally landing more on the opposite side of the roulette table. And the opposite is also true; if the ball is not landing on "low" as often as "high," you've got a chance that it may be temporally landing on your numbers more than the natural odds would predict.
If you give the above strategy a try you must be prepared to lose or wind up even most of the time in order to gain occasional good wins. That is how it will work. It's a good value bet. Although it is up to you to decide if you're ready to assume the risk or not.
It is important to note that if a particular roulette number has not dropped in for a thousand spins, this doesn't mean that it's any more likely to come up the next winner. Yes, the odds of that roulette number not being a winner for 1000 spins are great. But it's the odds at the beginning of the 1000 spins when it's unlikely, not afterwards. Once it has occurred there's exactly a 36-1 chance of it landing on that number with the next spin.
So remember, what happened in the past will have absolutely no influence on what'll happen in the future. Remember this fact as part of your roulette strategy the next time you notice someone betting on a certain number or color etc. because that particular bet hasn't won in a while. It may or may not win. If you sense it's a good idea and you are prepared to take the risk, then go for it. But whether you win or lose comes down to luck and not down to the fact that it was due to win.
Another excellent roulette strategy is this: Notice that the roulette table is divided into three length-way columns (1-34, 2-35, 3-36). The column with the numbers 3-36 has 8 red numbers and only 4 black numbers. You may try to use this fact to your advantage. Place one chip on red & two chips on column 1-34, and 2 chips on column 2-35. Now, more often than not you should be winning. But when the ball sways in favor of the 3-36 column over a period -- which shall happen -- the odds are in your favor that it'll land on red more than black so your losses are reduced. This means that in the long run you've got a good chance of winning more than you lose, unless you are just being very unlucky.
Because the roulette ball will, over a given period, more than likely swing in favor of one of the 3 columns, you do not have to be too lucky to have picked the right one as you've covered two out of three. However, when the ball does land in the 3-36 column more than the other two over a period, we've got a little back-up insurance to cover us by also wagering on red at the same time (because most numbers in this column are red).
Roulette strategies, as you can see, are not as simple as you might expect. However, these strategies should enable you to win small amounts most of the time and experience greater losses less often. It's a good idea to practice these strategies in Play-for-Free mode, which any of the more trustworthy online casinos provide. You will not risk losing any money while you familiarize yourself with the game more, and will allow you to fully concentrate on developing your strategies.
